Man Utd expected to make Wolves wait for first Premier League win under Lage

Fresh from thrashing Championship side Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the EFL Cup, Wolves go in search of their first Premier League win under new head coach Bruno Lage on Sunday.

Manchester United travel to Molineux on the back of a 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend, which followed a 5-1 rout of Leeds on the opening weekend.

As a result, sixth-place Man Utd find themselves on four points after two matches – four points ahead of sixteenth-place Wolves.

Lage’s side kicked off the campaign with back-to-back 1-0 losses, going down to Leicester on the opening weekend before losing to Tottenham.

Remarkably, Wolverhampton racked up a combined total of 42 shots across their first two Premier League games but failed to find the back of the net.

Lage’s men found their scoring boots in midweek, however, crushing Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the second round of the League Cup.

Romain Saiss, Daniel Podence, Francisco Trincao and Morgan Gibbs-White got on the scoresheet last time out, while Wolves recorded 28 attempts – 13 of which were on target.

Stretching back to last season, Wolves have lost each of their last five league games and have only managed to win one of their previous eight.

By contrast, Manchester United have only lost three of their previous 34 encounters in the Premier League.

On top of that, they are unbeaten in their last 20 away matches in the Premier League – going the whole of last season without losing a league game on the road.

The Red Devils hammered Leeds 5-1 on the opening weekend, with Bruno Fernandes netting a hat-trick and Paul Pogba contributing four assists.

However, they were brought back down to earth by Saints last time out – recording a 1-1 draw on the south coast.

Head-to-head: Man Utd did the double over Wolves last term, picking up a 1-0 home victory before winning 2-1 at Molineux.

In fact, Man Utd are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Wolves in all competitions, having registered three wins and three draws in that time.

Team news: Wolves could be without as many as five first-team players on Sunday, with Willy Boly, Pedro Neto, and Jonny among the notable absentees.

Man Utd currently have Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, Marcus Rashford, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones on the sidelines, although Edinson Cavani is close to returning.

While Wolves will be eager to get their first points of the season on the board, it is difficult to ignore Man Utd’s strong record in this fixture.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Man Utd will net over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet en route to seeing off Wolves.
