Brazil Favourites to Progress to Olympic Final at the Expense of Mexico

The men’s Olympic Games football tournament is reaching the latter stages and on Tuesday the 3rd of August we have a semi-final meeting between Brazil and Mexico.

The match will be played at the Kashima Stadium but unfortunately, as has been the case throughout the competition, there will be no fans in attendance.

Nonetheless, we will still be in for a hugely competitive game and Brazil come into the match having defeated Egypt 1-0 in the quarter-final.

The Brazilian team were expected to defeat Egypt but it was never going to be easy, especially as the Egyptians had defended well throughout the group stage, conceding just one goal in 3 games.

However, Brazil made the breakthrough in the 37th minute and it was always going to be difficult for Egypt to get back into the match having conceded the first goal.

That result means Brazil are only two matches away from winning back-to-back Olympic golds, which would be a fantastic achievement.

The victory over Egypt means Brazil are undefeated in their last 5 games, 4 of which have been in this Olympic Games tournament.

The Brazilian Under 23 team have suffered only one defeat in their last 15 games in all competitions.

Trends show they have seen over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of their 8 most recent fixtures, including 2 of their group matches at the Olympic Games.

Mexico were involved in an extremely exciting quarter final game against South Korea. Mexico opened the scoring after only 12 minutes but South Korea got back into the match with an equalising goal just 8 minutes later.

Mexico pushed on before half-time by scoring 2 goals and they were 3-1 up at the interval. South Korea got a goal back just after half-time but Mexico restored their 2 goal cushion just 3 minutes later, went on to add 2 additional goals and eventually won the match 6-3.

The Mexican team have been exciting to watch throughout the competition and they scored 8 goals in the group stage, meaning their total is 14 goals in just 4 matches at the Olympic Games.

Trends show Mexico have seen over 2.5 goals in all 4 of their Olympic Games fixtures and in each of their last 5 matches in all competitions.

Team news and Brazil are likely to be unchanged from their quarterfinal victory over Egypt. Paulinho will be hoping to start the game but having scored the decisive goal in the quarter final, Matheus Cunha will keep his place on the starting XI.

Mexico are also likely to keep the same starting XI from their quarter final win. Diego Lainez and Fernandoz Beltran will be hoping to get a start but the manager is not going to want to change a starting team that scored 5 goals.

Forebet predicts that Mexico will overcome Brazil in a tight encounter this Tuesday.
