Rangers to start SPFL season with win against Livingston
Rangers FC vs Livingston FC - 31/07/2021
3245
The Scottish Premiership season kicks off on Saturday and reigning champions Rangers host Livingston at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s team are aiming for a second straight title this season. Rangers are on a four-game winning streak versus Livingston and should make it a fifth victory.
Gerrard’s team cannot overlook Livingston this weekend despite having a Champions League third qualifying round first leg match against Malmo. Rangers are Scotland’s only hope of making the Champions League group stage this season following Celtic’s elimination in the second qualifying round.
Livingston are winless in 10 straight matches versus Rangers going into the game on Saturday. The Lions have posted a record of 0W-1D-9L in all competitions versus Rangers over their last 10 meetings.
Rangers and Livingston met four times last season in the Scottish Premiership and Championship round. The Ibrox club won three games to nil and drew the fourth with the game finishing nil-nil.
Livingston manager David Martindale has one player on the injury list going into matchday 1 on Saturday. Midfielder Keeghan Jacobs is on the injury list but could make the squad on Saturday as he gets fit.
Ryan Jack is the only player on Rangers’ injury list going into the weekend. He is recovering from a calf injury and could be fit for the game.
Rangers have brought in a number of players this offseason. Forward Fashion Sakala, defender John Lundstrum, and Nnamdi Ofoborh all arrived in the summer on permanent deals.
Gerrard did not lose anyone of significance at the moment. However, Rangers have a massive squad currently and are likely to shed some of the dead weight before the end of August.
Rangers are still looking to add to the squad. Manchester United player Charlie McCann, 19, is set to sign for Rangers this week. Looking over Rangers’ squad, it is easy to see just how strong Rangers are going into the season.
Last season, Rangers won three games to nil against Livingston. It is difficult to believe Livingston will defeat the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. Livingston were led in goals by Scott Pittman in goals 2020-21 with seven. They scored just 41 times to finish fifth in the regular season.
Rangers should have no issue claiming a win on Saturday versus Livingston. Like they did three times in 2020-21, Rangers should win to nil and could score over 2.5 goals in doing so.
