The third of the four quarter final matches to be played in the men’s Olympic Games football tournament is between Brazil and Egypt.
The game will take place at the Saitama Stadium 2002 and Brazil come into the match as the defending Olympic gold medallists, having won the competition on home soil in 2016.
The Brazilians were drawn in Group D along with Germany, Ivory Coast, and Saudi Arabia. They started the tournament with a rematch of the 2016 final against Germany and Brazil were at their best as they raced into a 3 goal lead after just 30 minutes of the game. Germany fought back well in the second half and despite being a man down, they entered the final few minutes of the game with a one goal deficit but were caught by Brazil in added time, who scored a fourth goal to win 4-2.
It was an impressive start to the tournament by Brazil but they struggled to breakdown the Ivory Coast defence in their second fixture and were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw. There were no such problems in the final game of the group against Saudi Arabia and Brazil scored two goals in the final 14 minutes of the match to win 3-1 and top the group.
Trends show the Brazil Under 23 team are unbeaten in their last 9 Olympics Men games and have lost only 2 of their last 21 matches in the competition. Brazil have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 fixtures, with both teams scoring in 5 of their last 6.
Egypt came into the tournament without Mohamed Salah but started the competition with a good 0-0 draw against and strong Spanish team. Another difficult fixture followed against Argentina and Egypt once again struggled to find the back of the net as they lost 1-0.
That left the Egyptians knowing they needed to win their final group game against Australia and they delivered the goods, scoring their first goals of the tournament to win 2-0 and finish second in Group C.
Trends show Egypt have proven difficult to beat in recent games and they have remained undefeated in 10 of their last 11 matches. Egypt have scored 2 or more goals in 9 of their 13 most recent fixtures.
Team news and Brazil can call upon some exciting attacking players, including Richarlison, Paulinho, Antony, Matheus Cunha, and Gabriel Martinelli. Brazil also have the experience of Dani Alves at right-back.
Egypt have Ahmed Hegazy in their ranks as their most experienced player. The central defender currently plays for Al Ittihad having spent several seasons in England with West Bromwich Albion. The majority of the squad play their football in Egypt.
This has the makings of being one of the more attacking quarter finals and we expect to see both teams find the back of the net. However, Brazil have the superior attacking talent and they should come out on top, with over 2.5 goals in the match.
