Bournemouth set for early success against MK Dons

Championship outfit, Bournemouth, will be looking to open their account in this first competitive match of the season against League One side, MK Dons, in this 1st round clash in the League Cup at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Bournemouth made it to the play-offs in last season’s Championship as The Cherries finished in 6th place but were eventually dumped out by Brentford who eventually went on to achieve promotion up to the Premier League.

Following an impressive seven-match winning streak from mid-March through to mid-April which included notable victories over Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Norwich City, Bournemouth then stumbled across the finishing line towards the end of the last campaign.

The south coast club lost four of their last five matches of the season and although they recorded a 1-0 home win against Brentford in the 1st leg of their play-off tie, The Bees bounced back with a 3-1 win at home.

Bournemouth have won four of their last six matches in the Championship, while in the League Cup, The Cherries have won their last seven ties on the trot including a 3-0 win over upcoming opponents, MK Dons.

Onto MK Dons and the visitors face a tough season-opener in the shape of Bournemouth in this 1st round of the League Cup not least because of their resounding 3-0 defeat on their last visit to the Vitality Stadium back in 2018.

It was a season of consolidation for MK Dons in last season’s campaign in League One as Russell Martin’s side finished in a comfortable mid-table finish of 13th place in the third tier, but they too experienced something of a downturn in results towards the end of last term.

MK Dons managed to win just three of their last eight matches overall, with two of these three wins being achieved on home soil at their stadium:mk with victories gained over Portsmouth and Swindon Town.

Results away from home though have been fairly ordinary for the visitors as they’ve picked up just two wins out of their last nine games on their travels in all competitions, whilst also losing five of these nine games.

Perhaps most compelling though, is the fact that Bournemouth have won the previous two meetings on the trot against MK Dons, winning 3-0 on each occasion and the hosts look a decent prospect at home here too.
