Fellow strugglers Gremio and America Mineiro meet in Brazil’s Serie A on Saturday, hoping to kick-start their campaigns following a poor start.
America have only taken nine points from a possible 36 this season and find themselves just inside the bottom four as a result.
On the flip side, Gremio have claimed just six points from their opening ten matches and sit second from bottom in the table – three points behind America.
Following three draws and six losses, Gremio finally picked up their first Serie A win of the season last time out – beating Fluminense 1-0 away from home.
Away from their domestic struggles, Gremio’s woes have also stretched to their continental endeavors this year.
They suffered a 2-1 loss to LDU Quito in the Copa Sudamericana Round of 16 on Tuesday, knocking them out of the competition.
Not only have Gremio failed to score in each of their last three home league games, but they have also managed to win just three of their previous 23 Serie A matches.
Funnily enough, no goals have been scored in each of America Mineiro’s last three matches in the Brazilian top-flight.
They have lost each of their last three Serie A games and have also won just two of their 12 league outings this year.
Having conceded 17 goals already this season, America currently have the third-worst defensive record in Brazil’s top tier.
Only four teams in Serie A have scored fewer goals than America this term. Interestingly, one of them is Gremio, who are the lowest scorers in the league.
Head-to-head: Gremio and America have faced each other seven times in Serie A since 2001, and Gremio have yet to taste defeat in this fixture.
With three wins and four draws coming along the way, Gremio are expected to avoid defeat on Saturday.
Team news: Gremio will look to veteran striker Diego Souza to get them out of trouble this weekend. The 36-year-old has bagged 15 goals and five assists across 2020/21.
America will be without injured forward Leo Passos on Saturday, leaving Rodolfo – who has netted four goals in all competitions this season – to lead the line.
With both sides struggling for form at the moment, Saturday’s clash is destined to be a closely fought encounter with minimal goalscoring opportunities.
For that reason, Forebet predicts that Gremio and America Mineiro will produce a low-scoring draw this weekend.
