Bodo/Glimt tipped to see off Valur in Europa Conference League qualifier

Valur and Bodo/Glimt will be looking to gain a first-leg advantage when they meet for their UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier on Thursday.

Both sides secured their respective domestic titles last season, with Valur winning Iceland’s top-flight and Bodo/Glimt clinching Norway’s Eliteserien crown.

Valur were knocked out of Champions League qualifying by Dinamo Zagreb earlier in the month, suffering a 5-2 aggregate loss.

As a result, they have lost each of their previous three matches in all competitions, having suffered a 2-1 defeat in Akranes last time out.

However, Valur still find themselves at the summit of Iceland’s top division after recording eight wins, three draws and two losses in their opening 13 games this term.

With 22 goals to their name, Valur are the second-highest scorers in the Icelandic top-flight. They also boast the joint-second best defensive record in the division.

Having bagged nine goals and two assists in all competitions this season, Patrick Pederson in Valur’s danger man.

Sigurder Egill Larusson (seven goals, one assist) and Kristinn Freyr Sigurdsson (three goals, five assists) are also enjoying successful campaigns.

Bodo/Glimt were also knocked out of Champions League qualifying earlier in the month, suffering a 5-2 aggregate defeats at the hands of Legia Warsaw.

The Norwegian side have only managed to win one of their previous eight games in all competitions, registering three draws and four losses in that time.

Still, Glimt find themselves second in the Eliteserien standings with a record of seven wins, four draws and three losses to their name.

Valur will be hoping to keep Erik Botheim quiet on Thursday, as the young striker has already bagged eight goals this year.

Midfielder Ulrik Saltnes (four goals, nine assists) has also performed well throughout the current campaign.

Head-to-head: Valur and Bodo/Glimt have never faced each other before, meaning there are no previous results to analyse here.

Team news: With no injury concerns for their side, both managers look set to field their strongest starting XI on Thursday.

Although Valur are enjoying a solid season, there is no denying that Glimt are the stronger of the two sides and should be able to secure a first-leg win on Thursday.

Forebet predicts that Bodo/Glimt will record a clean-sheet victory over Valur, claiming a vital first-leg advantage in the process.
