Corinthians to hold their own at Chapecoense
4510

Thursday evening brings us further midweek action from the Brazilian Serie A with the clash between Chapecoense and Corinthians at the Arena Condá with the hosts still in search of recording their first win of this domestic top flight season.

Having failed to win any of their opening nine matches of this new Serie A season, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Chapecoense find themselves in early trouble down near the foot of the Brazilian top flight table, sitting second from bottom with just four points to their name.

These four points have been picked up in draws against Ceara, Sao Paulo, Atletico Mineiro and Athletico PR but the remaining five matches have all ended in defeats.

Indeed, Chapecoense have lost three of their last four matches overall and look destined to be fighting against relegation for the majority of this season now.

The bigger picture also paints a bleak outlook for Chapecoense as the hosts have managed to win just four of their last 32 matches overall in Serie A, and just two wins from their previous 15 games on home soil.

Corinthians have fared a little better than their hosts so far in this season’s Serie A campaign as they sit in 13th place and having had to suffer just two defeats in their opening nine matches of the new term.

As the visitors have also managed to pick up only two wins to date though, which came in the shape of victories against America Mineiro and Sport Recife, it’s therefore been the draw that has been the most prevalent result to date for the visitors, drawing five of their nine matches so far.

Corinthians have lost just two of their last 11 matches overall, both of which were actually inflicted upon them on home turf at their Neo Química Arena, while results on the road have been fairly steady; the visitors have lost just four of their last 15 matches on their travels.

Within these last 15 away matches, Corinthians have kept a total of seven clean sheets and their solid defensive unit may hold the key to this outcome against Chapecoense.

Corinthians have won the previous three meetings on the trot against Chapecoense, with the last meeting resulting in a 1-0 win for Corinthians away from home and a similar scoreline could unfold here on Thursday evening.
