Spain Need Win Against Slovakia to Qualify
4317

We have reached the final round of group fixtures at the 2021 European Championship. On the 23rd of June we will see the conclusion of Group E and Spain will play Slovakia at La Cartuja, in Seville.

As things stand going into the match, Spain are in third place on 2 points and Slovakia are in second place on 3 points. Therefore, a draw for Slovakia could be enough to see them progress to the knockout stages whereas Spain need a win.

The Spanish have been disappointing in the tournament and started with a 0-0 draw against Sweden. It was a poor performance by Spain, especially in the final third and things did not improve greatly in the second fixture against Poland.

Spain made the breakthrough after 25 minutes and could have doubled their advantage but missed a penalty early in the second half. Poland fought back and scored the equaliser 9 minutes after the interval and the game finished 1-1.

Trends show Spain are undefeated in their last 7 games in all competitions but they have won only one of their last 4 fixtures, including friendly matches.

Their recent European Championship record shows Spain have failed to win any of their last 4 games, drawing two matches in this competition and losing their last two at the 2016 European Championship.

Spain have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 games, including friendlies.

Slovakia started the European Championship with a great 2-1 win over Poland. They opened the scoring after 18 minutes thanks to an own goal but Poland struck back immediately after half time to level the match.

However, Slovakia continued to put pressure on the Polish defence in the second half and scored the winning goal in the 69th minute.

Slovakia went into the game against Sweden knowing a point may have been good enough to see them progress to the Round of 16.

However, with the game looking set to drift as a 0-0 draw, Sweden were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute, which they converted and won the match 1-0.

Slovakia have recorded one win form their 4 most recent European Championship games and have managed to score just 2 goals across those 4 matches, which both came in the same game.

Slovakia have seen under 2.5 goals scored in 3 of their last 4 matches, including friendlies.

Looking ahead to the team news and Spain could make some changes to their starting XI. Ferran Torres, Pablo Sarabia, and Thiago Alcântara could all come into the starting XI.

Slovakia are going to stick close to the team which started their previous two games. Luka Haraslín will hope to return to the starting XI having been dropped to the bench for the defeat against Sweden.

This is going to be a tough game for Spain, even playing on home soil. They have to win this match and it could be a nervy night for Spanish fans in Seville as Slovakia are capable of making life tough for their opponents.

However, we expect Spain to score and a single goal could be enough to take maximum points.
