Can Czech Republic upset England at Wembley?
7662

Both the Czech Republic and England have all but secured their place in the Euro 2020 knockout phase ahead of their meeting at Wembley on Tuesday.

With the two nations locked on four points at the top of Group D, either side could lose their final group match and still qualify for the last 16.

Elsewhere in Group D, Croatia and Scotland occupy the bottom two places after both taking just a single point from their opening two games.

The Czech Republic kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Scotland thanks a Patrick Schick brace, which included a remarkable long-range effort.

The Czechs then preserved their unbeaten record at the tournament by holding Croatia to a 1-1 draw on Friday. Once again, Schick got on the scoresheet.

The Czech Republic only managed to win one of their four games in the lead-up to the European Championship, recording one draw and two losses in that time.

However, thanks largely to the exploits of Schick, the Czechs have showed everyone what they are capable of in recent days.

England’s tournament has followed a similar path to the Czech’s, having won their opener and drawn their second game.

The Three Lions produced a composed performance to claim an easy 1-0 victory over Croatia in their first match, with Raheem Sterling bagging the goal.

Despite seeing 61% possession in their previous encounter, Gareth Southgate’s men were held to a goalless draw by Scotland on Friday.

Still, let’s not forget that England have only lost one of their previous ten games in all competitions (eight wins, one draw).

Although the Three Lions produced a below-par display against the Scots, they still boast a frightening array of attacking talent.

Head-to-head: England have only lost one of their four meetings with the Czech Republic over the years, picking up two wins and one draw along the way.

However, the Czechs claimed a 2-1 victory when they last faced England during qualification for Euro 2020.

Team news: The Czech Republic have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s clash. Injured goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka has already left the squad, with Tomas Koubek coming in to replace him.

As for England, Southgate could be tempted to introduce fit-again duo Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson after both players sat out of the opening two games.

The Czechs have impressed at Euro 2020 so far, but England should have too much for their opponents on Tuesday.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that England will keep a clean sheet on their way to seeing off the Czech Republic.
