Ukraine and Austria set for crunch match in Group C

With both sides locked on three points in Group C, Monday’s clash between Ukraine and Austria in Bucharest is vitally important.

Interestingly, the two nations both have a +3 goal difference, having each recorded one win and one loss in their opening two matches.

Although Ukraine gave an excellent account of themselves in their first game, they ended up suffering a 3-2 loss to the Netherlands.

Andriy Shevchenko’s men came from two goals down to level the score against the Dutch but eventually conceded a late goal.

However, the Ukrainians produced a dominant performance to see off North Macedonia 2-1 in their previous outing.

Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk scored against the Netherlands before both netting again last time out.

Looking at the bigger picture, Ukraine have only lost one of their previous eight matches in all competitions (three wins, four draws).

Let’s not forget that Shevchenko's side have also bagged over 1.5 goals in each of their last three encounters.

On the flip side, Austria kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-1 victory over North Macedonia last weekend.

However, they were beaten 2-0 by the Netherlands last time out, despite seeing the lion’s share of possession.

Although Austria controlled the ball for large spells, they only managed to register a single shot on target against the Dutch.

Having suffered a defeat in their previous game, Austria have now won just one of their previous five matches in all competitions (one draw, three losses).

It is also worth pointing out that the Austrians have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight encounters.

Head-to-head: Interestingly, Ukraine and Austria have only faced each other on two occasions over the years (2011, 2012).

Ukraine claimed a 2-0 home win over Austria before the Austrians got their revenge a year later, winning 3-2 on home soil.

Team news: Ukraine could be without Oleksandr Zubkov again after the winger came off with an injury in the first game.

On the other hand, Austria could welcome back forward Marko Arnautovic following his one-match suspension.

Having watched both sides across their opening two games, there isn’t much to separate Ukraine and Austria.

Given that Ukraine and Austria are relatively evenly matched, Forebet predicts that we will see a low-scoring draw in Romania on Monday.
