Athletico Paranaense will travel to Goiânia as they meet Atlético Goianiense in Serie A this Sunday with both sides going unbeaten in their first few games which means neither side have conceded a single goal in the 2021 season so far.
The home side sit eighth, with one game in hand against five of the seven teams above them meaning a win could catapult them into the top three.
Atlético PR, on the other hand, sit second in the table and although no team can match Bragnantino's 10 goals in four games thus far, Paranaense have netted five, won all three games, and now sit as the closest runners to league leaders, Fortaleza.
As a result of such an impressive defensive output, the Curitiba outfit have seen over 2.5 goals just once in their games, which came when they thrashed Juventude 3-0, with their wins over América and Grêmio in the league both coming through a 1-0 scoreline.
At the same time, these three victories in Serie A have seen Paranaense have just eight corners across the three games, with four of them coming against Grêmio last time out in the league.
In midweek, Paulo Autuori's men travelled to Parana and once again, Paranaense kept another clean sheet, meaning they have now conceded just 12 goals since the first Campeonato Paranaense group game against Cianorte, which ironically, they lost 1-0.
The last time Athletico GO and Atlético PR met was in the previous season, where Paranaense won 2-1 late on thanks to a stoppage time winner from Thiago Heleno, after Vitinho bagged the opener.
Once again, that last encounter witnessed just over 2.5 goals, seven corners, with a goalless scoreline at the end of the first half.
As for Atlético, they come into this fixture after continuing their unbeaten record in the league following a 0-0 draw with leaders Fortaleza in midweek and Fortaleza have subsequently kept the gap on them and Paranaense, too.
Atlético weren’t really in the game at all, and chances didn’t come that frequently for them with just the one shot on goal.
Now, after the league leaders dropped points, a win for Paranaense against the Goiânia outfit would send them to the top of Serie A for now at least.
Given the decent start of Atlético and the unbeaten league campaign from Paranaense, not much will separate them here, especially how the away side concede significantly fewer than most in the league.
A close affair is predicted and Paranaense should get the job done.
