Croatia and Czech Republic meet for vital Group D clash

The Czech Republic will be looking to build on an impressive win over Scotland when they face Croatia at Hampden Park on Friday.

The Czechs secured a comfortable 2-0 victory against the Scots thanks to a brace from Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick.

Meanwhile, Croatia lost their opening match of Euro 2020 and now find themselves three points behind the Czech Republic in Group D.

Despite edging the possession against the Three Lions, Croatia rarely threatened England’s goal and ended up losing 1-0 on Sunday.

In actually fact, the Croatians’ aging midfield and forward line looked relatively toothless against Gareth Southgate’s side.

Croatia have now won just two of their previous ten games in all competitions, recording two draws and six losses along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that Croatia have failed to score in each of their last two matches and have only netted once in their previous three.

On the flip side, the Czech Republic got their European Championship campaign off to the best possible start on Monday.

Patrick Schick gave his country the lead on the stroke of half-time before doubling his tally with a goal of the tournament contender from the halfway line.

The Czechs only saw 42% possession at Hampden Park and faced 19 shots from Scotland. However, they managed to convert two of their seven attempts on target into goals.

The Czech Republic have now won five of their last eight games in all competitions, registering one draw and two losses in the process.

It is also worth remembering that the Czechs have netted over 1.5 goals in four of their previous eight encounters.

Head-to-head: Croatia and the Czech Republic have only faced each other three times since 1996. Croatia remain unbeaten in this fixture, having notched two wins and one draw.

Given that the previous two meetings between the sides have produced a combined total of ten goals, we are likely to see plenty of action on Friday.

Team news: Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic is likely to make alterations to his starting XI following the below-par performance against England.

The Czech Republic may be tempted to stick with the same team that performed well against Scotland on Monday.

Although Croatia lost their opening game of the tournament, the 2018 World Cup runners-up defintely have enough quality to challenge the Czechs.

Forebet predicts that Croatia will net at least two goals on their way to victory over the Czech Republic. That said, both teams are likely to score.
