Australia to preserve 100% group winning record against Jordan
3435

Tuesday night brings us the final round of Asian World Cup qualifiers and features a top of the table clash in Group B between Australia and Jordan on neutral soil at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium.

Although Australia have already qualified for the next qualifying round in the Asian section, courtesy of a 100% winning record which has lifted the Socceroos to the top of the group and seven points clear of their nearest rivals, Jordan, Graham Arnold’s side will be eager to extend their winning streak to eight matches.

Australia’s seven-match winning streak in Group B includes plundering a total of 27 goals and conceding just 2 in reply along with beating Jordan in the earlier corresponding fixture 1-0 away from home back in mid-November.

Having lost just one of their last 23 World Cup qualifiers, the Aussies will be in confident mood here.

That one defeat was at the hands of Japan back in August 2017 but since then, Australia have been unbeaten in their subsequent 10 qualifiers, winning nine of these.

Jordan face a tough task against the runaway winners of Group B but they do hold a three-point cushion over 3rd placed Kuwait heading into these final round of matches in the 2nd stage of the Asian World Cup qualifying process.

Jordan have suffered just the one defeat during these qualifiers and that was to Tuesday’s upcoming opponents, Australia, but home and away wins against Nepal and Chinese Taipei have helped lift Jordan up into 2nd spot where they’ll be hoping to progress to the next round as one of the best runners-up.

With just five wins out of their last 13 World Cup qualifiers away from home though, Jordan may well have a difficult evening at the office against counterparts, Australia.

Although they’re unbeaten in their last three qualifiers on the road, the last time Jordan were away from home against Australia, they were hammered 5-1 back in March 2016.

Australia have been excellent during this group stage of the World Cup qualifying process and look to be more consistent than Jordan.

So, the Socceroos look set to complete their campaign with a 100% winning record as they prepare to progress their journey for Qatar 2022.
