Atletico MG have started the 2021 season well in all competitions. The Roosters have posted a record of 17W-4D-3L.
They defeated Clube do Remo 2-0 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil third round and have their eyes on progress to the fourth round with a second victory this week.
Remo head into the second leg following a 1-0 Serie B win versus Brasil de Pelotas. Manager Paulo Bonamigo will hope the team can overturn the two-goal deficit they face versus Atletico MG.
These teams do not have a long history against each other. The match in the Copa do Brasil third round first leg was their first meeting.
Atletico MG won the first leg thanks to two first half goals courtesy of Hyoran and Ignacio Fernandez. The game was a lot more even than the scoreline suggests.
Remo posted 22 shots with two landing on target. They kept 52% possession and outpassed Atletico MG 483 to 476. Atletico MG tallied 10 shots and had six landed on target.
Atletico Mineiro are coming off of a Serie A win over Sport Recife, 1-0. Manager Cuca Alexi Stival will hope the team can continue winning matches. In 24 games this season, Atletico MG have scored 46 goals and average 1.92 goals per game. The defence has only let in 13 goals.
The Roosters finished third in last season’s Serie A. Stival will expect the team to fight for the Serie A crown once more. A strong run in the Copa do Brasil could be more likely than a fight for the Serie A title once more.
The biggest issue for Atletico MG is the absence of three players with each on international duty. Defenders Guga and Guilherme Arana and goalie Rafael are all out of the game.
Remo will be without defender Mimica who had his contract terminated this week. The team have no other big player news going into the game.
Atletico MG mustn’t get ahead of themselves going into the game. Remo will be out to cause a major upset and overturn the two-goal deficit they face. Atletico MG won the only match between the sides previously played and should post another victory.
The Roosters should claim another win over Remo. It should be a low-scoring game with the match finishing with under 2.5 goals tallied. Atletico MG could post another 2-0 win just as they did in the first leg.
