On Sunday afternoon, Manchester City recorded a 1-0 win at Southampton to become the first team in the Premier League era to break the 100-point barrier.

The Citizens have been the dominant force in the Premier Leaguefrom start to finish this season. However, Pep Guardiola’s side needed a touch of inspiration deep in stoppage-time from Gabriel Jesus to break down a stubborn Saints backline on the final day of the season.

The win means that the men from Manchester City won 32 of their 38 league games this season while scoring a fantastic 106 goals in the process. The manner of City winning the title and their style of play must make the Citizens contenders to be one of the greatest sides in the history of the Premier League.

City’s performances this season should not come as a surprise, as the Citizens have one of the finest football bosses at the helm in Pep Guardiola. Many have claimed that the Catalan boss has only won so many trophies due to big spending.

However, it takes more than just a load of expensive players to achieve what City have this season. All of the City players buy into Guardiola’s football philosophy, as if they did not then the team would not be producing such good results and performances.

Guardiola has bought many expensive players, but he has also developed and helped players progress in the past few seasons. England winger Raheem Sterling is the perfect example.

Guardiola has managed to coach a bit more out of the former Liverpool star in the last 12 months. The result has been Sterling playing a key role in the Citizens title victory.

Manchester City now have a chance to build on a very special season. No doubt next season the Citizens will be returning with belief that they can improve on this seasons achievements, as their demanding boss is unlikely to accept anything less.
