Swansea’s Icelandic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson has been one of the unsung heroes of the Premier League this season, helping the Welsh side escape the relegation zone and collecting some impressive figures along the way.

The 27-year-old has contributed eight goals and 11 assists in the Premier League this season. In fact, he has scored or assisted in seven of his last eight appearances for the Welsh side. However, he is often underrated as he does not play for a team near the top of the Premier League table.

That situation may well change in the near future. Swans boss Paul Clement recently praised Sigurdsson. Now the player himself has said that he dreams of playing for ‘a big club’.

One club that has been repeatedly linked with the star has been upwardly mobile Everton. The Toffees currently sit seventh in the table and are a highly ambitious club. The Merseysiders are expected to spend big in the summer, while a new stadium looks to be in the pipelines on the Liverpool docks.

Everton appears to be on the verge of something special. The Toffees reportedly attempted to sign Sigurdsson last summer, but the Welsh club were not interested in selling their star player.

Media reports suggest that the Merseysiders are set to renew their interest in Sigurdsson this summer. With speculation over the future of England international playmaker Ross Barkley, the speculation over Sigurdsson signing for the club is understandable. Sigurdsson would certainly be a stellar addition to the Everton squad.

The former Spurs star is the sort of quality player that Everton need to progress in the near future. For most a move to Everton from Swansea would be a big step up, but whether Sigurdsson would think that why remains to be seen. However, from the outside looking in it seems like the perfect move for both the player and Everton.
