For too long Inter one of the biggest clubs in the Italian game has underachieved. This season under Stefano Pioli the Nerazzurri’s fortunes have improved slightly, after a poor start to the campaign under Dutch boss Frank de Boer.

The men from Milan are in contention for the European spots this season, with third-place Napoli currently just six points ahead. Their challenge for a European spot will face a stiff test, as the Nerazzurri welcome in-form Atalanta to the Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors have surprised everybody with their form in Serie A this season under former Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini. The side from Bergamo currently occupy fifth place, one place and one point above Inter.

The visitor's form has recovered of late after a slight slump. In fact, Gasperini’s side are unbeaten in seven Serie A games, recording five wins in the process. Their away form has not been too bad of late, either, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last six league games.

Inter’s recent form has been inconsistent, as they have suffered two defeats in their last five Serie A outings. However, those defeats were against the top two teams in the league Juventus and Roma. Prior to their loss at Juventus, Pioli’s side had won seven straight league games.

Their defeat at home to Roma last time out, brought an end to a run of eight consecutive victories on home soil in Serie A. These victories owed a lot to Inter’s attacking prowess, as the Nerazzurri scored at least two goals in those eight wins.

Atalanta have won just one of the last five meetings with Inter, but that win came in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Forebet predicts that Inter will record a vital victory and aid their chances of securing a European spot for next season.
