The Viola to better Gladbach in Florence
The Europa League could be the last hope of Fiorentina and Monchengladbach for salvaging disappointing campaigns. The two meet in Florence on Thursday night in the second leg of the Europa League last-32.
The Italian side recorded a 1-0 win in the first leg and the Viola will be favourites to triumph once again in this clash. Paulo Sousa Fiorentina are currently eighth in Serie A but are eight points behind Atalanta who occupy fifth spot and the final Europa League berth.
The home side lost 2-1 at AC Milan and will be hoping to get back to winning ways against a Monchengladbach side that has struggled for form this season. Dieter Hecking’s side are 11th in the Bundesliga table, closer to the relegation zone than the European spots.
Gladbach head into this clash on the back of consecutive defeats and will have their work cut out to claw back the one goal deficit considering that Fiorentina have suffered just one defeat in their last 16 games at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
To make life even harder for the visitors, Fiorentina have been prolific in front of goal on home soil of late, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight outings at home in all competitions.
However, there may be one chink of light for the German side in their recent away record. Hecking’s are unbeaten in their last four away games in all competitions. And they have also kept clean sheets in three of those four outings, so they are no pushovers on their travels.
The two team’s recent form in the Europa League is highly contrasting. Fiorentina have won five of their last six games in the competition, while Gladbach have now lost their last three games in European football's secondary competition.
Forebet predicts that Fiorentina will record a victory in this clash and progress to the last-16 of the Europa League.
