Sevilla to tame the Foxes
Struggling English champions Leicester City face a test of their mental strength as they travel to Andalucía to face Sevilla on Wednesday night in the Champions League last-16 first leg.
Sevilla are enjoying a stellar campaign under highly rated Chilean boss Jorge Sampaoli. The Europa League holders are sitting pretty in La Liga, third in the table and mounting what seemed like an unlikely title challenge at the beginning of the campaign.
In the Champions League Sampaoli’s team finished second in their group behind Italian champions Juventus. However, the Spanish side suffered just one defeat in the group stages, which came at home against Juventus.
The defeat against the Bianconeri was their only loss in their last seven games in Europe’s elite competition. Sampaoli’s team have also won three of their last four home games in Europe, keeping clean sheets in all three of those victories.
The Spanish team’s home games in Europe have been high-scoring with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight games on home soil in European competition.
Leicester City arrive in Andalucía on a horrendous run of form, having failed to win in open play in their last eight games in all competitions. Last time out the Foxes suffered the indignity of losing 1-0 at League One Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round.
The lower league side even had a man dismissed, but the Foxes could not even claim a replay. With Claudio Ranieri’s team sitting just above the relegation zone in the Premier League, the Champions League has been their saving grace this season.
The Foxes record in the Champions League is a good one, despite their struggles this season. Ranieri’s side have won four of their six games in the competition suffering just one defeat in the process.
The English champions may have suffered just one defeat in the competition, but Forebet predicts they will suffer another one in this massive clash.
