Roma looking for revenge against Torino

Roma welcome Torino to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening with revenge in mind, having lost the reverse fixture 3-1 in September.

As Juventus continued their fine form with a victory over Palermo on Friday night, Roma cannot afford to drop any points in this game, if they are to stay in touch at the top of Serie A.

Despite having travelled to Spain to play Villarreal on Thursday night, the tremendous performance and 4-0 win should leave the Roma players feeling good about themselves and any tiredness will be an afterthought. The only player who will not be available for Luciano Spalletti is Alessandro Florenzi, who is unlikely to return to the team this season having suffered a serious injury.  It will be interesting to see if the Roma manager makes many changes from the team which won so convincingly in mid-week.

The 3-2 defeat at Sampdoria apart, Roma have been in excellent form and the Giallorossi have recorded four wins in a row in all competitions.  In fact, Roma have lost only two of their previous sixteen matches this season, which is a great record.  At home, Roma have been extremely impressive and have won all eleven home Serie A matches this season, scoring plenty of goals in the process.  Roma have scored 32 goals in eleven home league games, averaging 2.90 goals per game and are difficult to stop when going forward at the Stadio Olimpico.

Therefore, Torino have got a tough job on their hands, if they are to take anything from this match.  Thankfully, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team managed to stop a poor run of results last weekend, by defeating lowly Pescara 5-3 at home, in a very entertaining game as Torino switched off having taken a 5-0 lead.  Prior to that victory, Torino failed to win any of their six games in all competitions and in Serie A, they have won two of the last eight, which is not ideal form when heading to the capital to play Roma.

Torino have had a real problem conceding goals and despite winning the match last weekend, still conceded 3 goals at home to a team who sit bottom of the table.  Of the top twelve teams in Serie A, Torino have the worst defensive record and it is hardly surprising when you consider they have kept three clean sheets in their last eleven Serie A games.  The Torino defence must tighten up considerably, if they are to get at least a point from this game.

You must go back to the 2006/07 season, to find the last time Torino defeated Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A and that record is unlikely to change this season.  Roma have scored 17 goals in the past six league meetings between the two in Rome and should find the back of the net at least twice in this game.  Expect Roma to come out on top by a healthy margin and there should be plenty of chances for the in-form Edin Dzeko to get on the scoresheet.
