Espanyol will be hosting Real Sociedad at the RCDE Stadium on Friday and will be hoping to extend their winning streak. They currently sit eighth on La Liga rankings and will be going into the fixture on the back of a three-match winning streak.

Before their recent good form, they had to endure a three-match winless streak, so they will be hoping their recent run means they have finally rounded the bend permanently. They are only three points behind the last European spot in the league, so they will fancy themselves staking a claim for a spot in the Europa League against next season. Their last match was away to bottom-placed side, Malaga which they narrowly won by a lone goal. Their Liga record this season is by no means shabby by their standards as they have won eight matches, drawn eight and lost just five.

Real Sociedad are also having a great season and will be going to the RCDE Stadium with a very high morale and on the back of three wins in their last four matches. Their last game was against Osasuna at the Anoeta Stadium, which they won narrowly after going a goal behind in the first half. They scored three goals in fifteen minutes in the second match to regain control of the match but also had to fight back an Osasuna resurgence after the cellar-dwellers pulled one back to make the scores 3-2 in the 79th minute.

They are currently fifth on the La Liga table, just one point behind Atletico Madrid and the last Champions League spot. They have lost seven matches, two more than the Catalans, but they have won twelve which is four more than Espanyol have won, and they have drawn two matches. The Royals have had very good results on the road so far this season, winning four and losing just two of their last six away games, one of which was a loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

On head to head basis, Real Sociedad come out tops, with sixteen wins, twelve draws and eleven losses. Their last meeting ended in a 1-1 draw at the Anoeta last September. The match will be a tight affair as both teams are in excellent form and have a lot to lose and a lot to gain too. The outcome will most likely be a draw or a narrow home win for Espanyol. Both teams are likely to score too.
