Real Madrid vs Malaga preview

After having their 40 game unbeaten run ended by Sevilla last weekend and then suffering a second defeat to Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid will be hoping they put the nightmare of the last two games behind them as they go into this one.
Zinedine Zidane has done a really fine job so far this season and has already equaled an unbeaten record previously held by Barcelona. His side have shown admirable resilience in all competitions this season and the poor results they have had in their last 2 matches notwithstanding, look consistent and strong enough to win the liga this season. They lead the closest team on the table by 1 point with a game in hand; of course this doesn't seem like very much but it remains yet to be seen whether Sevilla can keep up their good form. Barcelona are 2 points behind and a win for Madrid in the outstanding game will take them 5 points ahead, and Atletico could also be 9 points behind.
Recently, Zidane adopted a very unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation perhaps in order to adapt to the absence of Gareth bale and to some extent, Alvaro Morata. That notwithstanding, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are available and have enough quality about them to see off the threat of Malaga.
Ideally, Real Madrid should have no problems dispatching Malaga, but considering the results of their last two matches, one can be tempted to think maybe the outcome may not be as straightforward this time.
Based on the history of this clash and team strength, Real Madrid have the upper hand, having won their last 5 home matches in the league and with no loss in their last 9 home matches at the Santiago Bernabeu. Both teams have met 30 times in the league and Real Madrid have only lost one of these meetings, winning 21 and drawing 8.
Malaga on the other hand are on a very poor run of form at the moment. They haven’t won any of their last 7 games in all competitions, they have lost their last 3 league matches and haven’t won in their last 9 away matches. They just had a change in personnel with Marcelo Romero replacing Juande Ramos as manager in a bid to turn their season around, but so far, that hasn’t looked like an inspired decision as he lost his first 2 league matches in charge and looks set to lose a third.
So Real Madrid are very huge favourites for this one.
