At the moment Sampdoria and Udinese are positioned in the bottom half of the Serie A table. The pair will meet on Thursday night at the Luigi Ferrari Stadium as both strive to finish 2016 with a victory.
The home side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Chievo last time out in Serie A that leaves them 13th in the table. The defeat against Chievo means that Marco Giampaolo’s team have now suffered back-to-back league defeats.
Despite their seemingly poor recent run of form, one of Samp’s strong points has been their form at the Luigi Ferrari Stadium. The home side have suffered just one league defeat in their last six outings on home soil, recording four wins in the process.
Sampdoria also have a good recent record against Udinese in Serie A, having suffered just one defeat against the visitors from Udine in the last 11 league meetings between the sides. The Genoa-based side have also scored two or more goals against Udinese in five of the last six meetings in all competitions.
Udinese will kick this game off two points ahead of Sampdoria and 11th in the Serie A table. The visitors have won their last three Serie A matches and last time out beat struggling Crotone 2-0. Despite that recent run of wins, Udinese’s poor away form will be a major concern for everybody connected with the club.
The visitors have won just three of their last 18 away games in the Italian top-flight. Given their poor away record, it seems a fourth straight victory looks unlikely. Both of these teams will be aiming for a top-ten finish this season and could boost morale ahead of the winter break by claiming maximum points.
Forebet predicts a high-scoring victory for the home side, which would certainly lift spirits following consecutive league defeats.
