A full mid-week programme of fixtures in the Premier League saw West Bromwich Albion and Manchester United record good victories. West Brom strengthened their position in the top half of the league table, thanks to their 3-1 home win over relegation strugglers Swansea City. Manchester United registered their second Premier League win in a row, as they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park and both teams will be coming into this match with confidence.

Trends show West Brom have lost only one of their last six Premier League games and that defeat came at Chelsea last weekend. Tony Pulis’ team defended well for most the match but it was a defensive error which gave Diego Costa the chance to move into the penalty area and produce a good finish from a tight angle. West Brom will know they cannot afford to give the Manchester United players similar gifts near their penalty area or they will be punished by the attacking talent in their team.

Despite the defeat at Stamford Bridge, West Brom can be happy with their performance and but for the mistake, looked good enough defensively to hold out for a point. West Brom’s recent home form in the Premier League has been very good and they have won their last three matches by 2 or more goals. They have scored 10 goals across the three games, at an average of 3.33 per game and conceded only 2, which highlights how well they are performing at the Hawthorns, at both ends of the pitch.

Manchester United arrive at West Brom for their fourth away match in succession in all competitions and they have won three and drawn one. Trends show Manchester United are now undefeated in nine games but perhaps more importantly, they have won their last three.

Turning draws into wins has been the problem for Jose Mourinho’s team this season but the 1-0 over Tottenham Hotspur and the 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace have seen Manchester United turn a corner. The Red Devils dominated the match at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night and found the back of the net inside the final ten minutes, to secure the win. The way the players and manager celebrated at the end of the match showed exactly what the win meant to them and there is a feeling Manchester United are going to push on from here and make a move into the top four.

In their last three matches away from home, Manchester United have been leading at half-time, so look out for them to make a fast start to this match and attempt to get West Brom on the back-foot immediately. With Manchester City playing Arsenal this weekend, it could be another chance for Manchester United to close in on the teams in the top four.  However, West Brom are aiming to close in on the European qualifying places themselves and we are in for a terrific match at the Hawthorns, between two teams who are in form.
