Sunday’s meeting of north west rivals Everton and Manchester United at Goodison Park could be pivotal in both teams’ campaigns.
Currently lying seventh and sixth in the Premier League table respectively, a win for either side would re-instil confidence that both sides have been missing of late.
Everton’s early season good form has gone out the window of late. The Toffees are struggling for points and performances at the moment. One win in their last nine games in all competitions illustrates the Toffees recent struggles for victories.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman was brought in to bring back the glory days on Merseyside. However, his side are currently struggling for form and confidence. One plus for the Toffees is the fact that they are now unbeaten in their last nine top-flight home games. That record will come as little comfort to the Everton fans who have watched such poor performances of late.
United have struggled for wins recently in the top-flight, but have lost just one of their last eight top-flight outings. The Red Devils will also have boosted morale and confidence with a 4-1 home victory against West Ham last time out in the EFL Cup quarter-final.
Their Premier League form has been inconsistent this season, as they have now drawn five of their last seven games in the English top-flight. The Red Devils are certainly still a work in progress under Jose Mourinho and they have struggled to build any momentum under their high-profile Portuguese boss.
Manchester United will be buoyed by the fact that they have beaten Everton in the last three meetings. However, Everton have produced poor performances in all three of those clashes.
Forebet predicts a low-scoring draw in this clash, which in truth would help neither team attempt to achieve their goal of European football next season.
