Inter in desperate need of a win against the Viola

Inter and Fiorentina clash at the Giuseppe Meazza on Monday night in Serie A with the home team in desperate need of a victory.
The home side have endured a difficult campaign and currently lie in 11th place in Serie A, despite having ambitions of finishing in the Champions League spots this season.
In truth, the Nerazzurri have been highly inconsistent, which was the reason that Dutch boss Frank de Boer lost his job with the club. A 2-2 draw at arch-rivals AC Milan last time out in the league was followed by a 3-2 defeat at Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Thursday night in the Europa League.
The result saw Inter eliminated from the competition and was even more disappointing considering that Stefano Pioli’s side had a two-goal lead at one stage of the game.
Inter would move above Fiorentina with a victory, but the Viola would still have a game in hand on the men from Milan. Pioli’s side are currently eight points behind Roma who occupy third place and the Champions League play-off qualification spot.
The Nerazzurri also trail fifth place Atalanta by seven points. A win in this game is vital, but that may be easier said than done. The Viola have won the last four meetings with Inter in all competitions. Paulo Sousa’s team are also unbeaten in their last six Serie A games, recording a resounding 4-0 win at struggling Empoli last time out in Serie A.
The Viola did suffer a surprise 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Greek side POAK Salonika in the Europa League on Thursday, so the visitors may be slightly vulnerable.
Forebet predicts that Inter will record a narrow victory over the Viola in this clash. However, judging by recent form the Nerazzurri will have to produce a top performance to win maximum points in this clash.
