Two of the tradition powerhouses of Italian football AC Milan and neighbours Inter clash on Sunday night in one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the Serie A football calendar.

AC Milan have enjoyed a renaissance of late and are third in Serie A, looking like genuine challengers for a Champions League spot this season. A run of five wins from their last six outings in Serie A sees Vincenzo Montella’s team in good shape.

The Rossoneri have struggled to make an impact in recent seasons in Italy’s top-flight. However, there now seems a new sense of purpose for the men from Milan. Montella’s team have been particularly strong at home of late, winning their last four Serie A outings at the San Siro.

The home side have enjoyed the better of the recent local derbies, suffering just one defeat against their arch-rivals in the last five meetings.

Inter are already on their second boss of the season in Stefano Pioli after Frank de Boer struggled to make an impact with the Nerazzurri. Inter are currently ninth in the table, having been expected to challenge for the Champions League spots this season. Pioli faces a baptism of fire in the Milan derby that is for sure.

Inter have been inconsistent this season and have lost their last three games on their travels. However, although technically it is an away game, it is at their shared stadium, so maybe the Nerazzurri can lift their game for the derby.

The home side definitely head into this game in higher spirits and on a good run of form in the Serie A. However, history has shown us that anything can happen in a derby match and Inter could still come out on top.

Despite the game being a derby and unpredictable, Forebet predicts that AC Milan will emerge triumphant from this game and continue their promising campaign.
