Boro may not be such easy opponents for Manchester City

Middlesbrough’s form has improved in the last few Premier League games. The north east side were on a poor run of form until they drew 0-0 at Arsenal in their last away game. The draw was followed up by a 2-0 home win against Bournemouth last time out.

Aitor Karanka’s team seem to have rediscovered the defensive solidarity that saw them win promotion to the top-flight last season. That improvement in form will be put to the test as the north east side visit league leaders Manchester City on Saturday.

The Citizens have recorded wins over West Brom and Barcelona in their last two games, scoring seven times in the process. It seems the men from Manchester have found their groove again under Pep Guardiola after six games without a win prior to their win against West Brom.

It seems strange to say, but Boro could be tough opponents for Guardiola’s team this weekend. Boro will no doubt come to defend just like they did at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal. In truth, though if Boro give City as many chances as they did Arsenal it could be a big win for City.

The visitors could be difficult opponents as they have nothing to lose. They are expected to lose heavily, so if they come away from the Etihad Stadium with anything other than a hammering they will come out of the game with some credit.

Boro are just above the relegation zone. A trip to the league leaders at this point looks like a daunting one. If City are tired from their midweek exertions or take their eye off the ball then Boro will give them a decent challenge.

However, if City turn up and are at the best then it could be a long afternoon for Aitor Karanka’s team and Boro may be back to square one in their search for form.
