Allardyce needs positive start to England reign
Experienced boss Sam Allardyce will take charge of England for the first time on Sunday, as the Three Lions travel to Trnava to face Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier.
The former West Ham boss was not a universally popular choice to be Roy Hodgson’s replacement. The main reason for the dislike of Allardyce’s appointment is the fact that he is perceived as a boss who favours an unattractive style of play.
However, his team’s style of play will have had a direct correlation to the quality of players available to him. The experienced boss has said in the past that he believed he had the managerial ability to manage one of the European giants such as Real Madrid.
Well, he now has the chance to work with better players than he did at club level, even if they are not quite up to the standards of those who play for Los Blancos.
It is imperative that the Three Lions make a positive start to Allardyce’s reign in charge. If the team makes a poor start against Slovakia on Sunday then the critics will be out in force. England usually qualifies for big tournaments at a canter, but then failed miserably at the tournaments themselves.
England should head to Slovakia and open their qualifying campaign with a win. The Slovaks have never beaten the Three Lions, although they did claim a creditable goalless draw at Euro 2016.
The new England boss does not seem to have made any sweeping changes to the England team or squad and the biggest factor is restoring the shattered confidence of his players. If he can do that one little thing then he could well thrive as the Three Lions boss.
