Manchester City needs to continue momentum against Steaua
Manchester City have started Pep Guardiola’s managerial reign with three wins out of three, including hammering Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of the Champions League last week.
On Wednesday the Citizens face the Romanian champions in the second leg of the tie, which looks purely academic. City boss Guardiola is likely to ring the changes to his team and give some fringe players their opportunity to impress.
The tie is heavily balanced in City’s favour, but the former Barcelona will be acutely aware that any changes could upset some of the momentum that his side has built up in the opening few weeks of the campaign.
Certain players like England international winger Raheem Sterling have been given a new lease of life under the Catalan boss. Resting some of those players may interrupt their promising start to the campaign.
The Citizens have played some very nice football, as Guardiola has settled in Manchester. No doubt City will not want to sustain any injuries or knocks in Romania, though, as they seek to win the Premier league title at the first time of asking under Guardiola.
Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero may be one of the players that the former-Barcelona boss will be looking to shield from any potential injuries. Aguero is in form, but the striker’s form is unlikely to be affected by being rested.
Guardiola has achieved great things in the game as a boss and he will know exactly how to approach Wednesday’s game without upsetting City’s promising start to the campaign. He is likely to rotate his squad but is unlikely to make wholesale changes to his team.
