England must improve to beat Slovakia

England has produced two promising displays at Euro 2016, but at times they have not been as productive as they could have been. The Three Lions have missed chances and given away poor goals.

The first half performance against Wales was lacklustre, but they still had chances to score and missed them. The introduction of forwards Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy at half-time transformed Roy Hodgson’s side.

Suddenly the Three Lions roared, as Vardy and Sturridge injected pace and purpose into the team. Both players got on the scoresheet and will surely be in the starting line-up for England’s final group game against Slovakia on Monday.

England has to play with the same purpose and tempo that they did for much of the second half against Wales. Winger Raheem Sterling struggled against Wales and striker Harry Kane looks tired, so both are likely to be replaced from the start for the game against Slovakia.

Roy Hodgson has revealed that he believes his decision to select an attacking squad has paid-off with the win over Wales, because of the parts Vardy and Sturridge played in the goals against the Dragons.

England must better Wales result in the other group game to finish top, but everybody connected with the country will be looking for them to put in a more complete performance than their game against the Welsh.

The England squad holds a lot of promise, but they will need to improve in the future games if they are to reach the latter stages of the competition in France.
