Dortmund will pose major obstacle to Liverpool in Europa League
German side Dortmund have enjoyed a renaissance this season under Thomas Tuchel, after a topsy-turvy campaign under Jurgen Klopp last season. BVB are still in the Bundesliga title race and are favourites to win the Europa League.
The German side host Premier League Liverpool at Signal Iduna Park on Thursday night in the Europa League quarter-final first leg. Tuchel’s side have been in fantastic form of late winning 18 of their last 20 games in all competitions and going unbeaten in that period.
Liverpool have not hit top form this season since former-BVB boss Jurgen Klopp was appointment in October. The German has yet to instil his philosophy fully into the current squad. The Reds have enjoyed good, bad and ugly displays this season.
Klopp returns to Dortmund as a beloved former-son. The Liverpool boss is expected to receive a rousing welcome on Thursday night. Klopp guided Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and also a Champions League final.
His replacement Tuchel followed the same path as Klopp from Mainz to BVB and has revived the team following a disappointing campaign in Klopp’s final year in charge. Tuchel has Dortmund playing at full throttle and they will difficult for Liverpool to stop.
Their style of play has loosely returned to the style that made the team so successful under Klopp and it is reaping dividends at both home and abroad. Liverpool were handed the hardest draw in the quarter-finals and their chances of success against Dortmund over two legs look very slim.
